Jerry Leger & The Situation

In his own way and on his own terms, young, independent Toronto songsmith Jerry Leger is blazing a trail in both Canada and the U.S.  The eloquence of his roots-based songs has earned Leger the respect of both his peers, and a growing fan base. Leger’s talent has long been lauded by some of this country’s premier singer-songwriters; beloved Canadian singer/songwriter Ron Sexsmith has asked Leger to open a number of his shows, while appearing as a special guest at some of Leger’s gigs. Don Kerr (Rheostatics, Ron Sexsmith) was so impressed that he produced Leger’s second album, Farewell Ghost Town, with highly acclaimed musician Tim Bovaconti. Leger’s third album, You, Me and the Horse, was co-produced by Bovaconti and Josh Finlayson (Skydiggers).   December 2010 marked the release of Leger’s fourth full-length album Travelling Grey.  Hailed as one of his strongest records to date, the album which is dedicated to the memory of his grandfather, has received rave reviews.   On Kerry Doole writes “Leger’s lyrics are imaginative, fusing folk and country elements seamlessly. There’s nice diversity to the tempos and tones….At 25, Leger clearly has a bright future ahead of him.”  Toro Magazine says “Leger is one of Toronto’s great songwriting talents, a country-folk troubadour with a sly sense of humour.”

Leger’s first Stateside foray was in October 2008, with well-received gigs in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Nashville, Tennessee. A second eastern U.S. tour in early 2010 saw Leger open for The Sadies in Rochester, New York.  He also appeared and performed on the popular radio concert series,  Knoxville’s Blue Plate Special, Nashville’s Music City Roots(hosted by Jim Lauderdale), and in-session with the legendary WSM Radio (home of the Grand Ole Opry).

On the Canadian scene, Leger has been thrilling audiences with regular live performances around the Greater Toronto Area, and he has appeared on numerous notable Canadian programs such as CBC’s Q and CFRB’s Rock Talk.Leger has opened for numerous artists including Fred Eaglesmith, Jesse Winchester, Jill Barber, Danny Michel, and Justin Townes Earle.

Leger is available for solo, duo and full band performances with his band “The Situation”. The Situation has been Leger’s backing band since 2005, and is comprised of accomplished musicians James McKie (electric guitar/fiddle/backing vocals), Dan Mock (electric and upright bass/backing vocals), and Kyle Sullivan (drums/percussion/backing vocals). On top of his own popular compositions, Leger is also known to throw in cover material from such artists as Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, The Kinks, Gram Parsons and even songs from 60′s girl groups (i.e. “Be My Baby”, “Keep Your Hands Off My Baby”).

“Jerry Leger is one of the best songwriters I’ve heard in quite some time.”
Ron Sexsmith

“Jerry Leger carries on a tradition of songwriters who document the world as they observe and pass through it. He is tenacious, ambitious and scrappy. All noble qualities that reveal themselves in his songs.”
Josh Finlayson

“a strong songwriter with a compelling voice…”
